Excuse Me, But...I Don't Care

That is I do not care to hear your personal telephone conversations.
You know I love the invention of the cell phone, they have some great applications, but they also have a place and there are just some places they are not meant to be used.
So bear with me while I vent...
1. In the rest room, please do not talk on your phone while you and various strangers are using the toilet, that is rude to the recipient of the call and disconcerting to us poor strangers.
2. On the bus, if it is an emergency yes....but do not hold a loud conversation that everyone is privy to, I do not care if the party last night sucked or not.
3. In a restaurant. I would like to dine, and not learn about your life story.
4. As you come into a check out lane, it is rude to the cashier.

Honestly am I the only person who does not feel the need to have a cell phone plastered to my ear 24/7? Am I the only one who feels that there should be some common courtesy and etiquette when it comes to when to use them? Doesn't Miss Manners cover these things somewhere?

I know they are needed, I know they are useful and save lives, but they are also a nuisance when used in the wrong places at the wrong times.

end vent....

Other than that, things are fine here in Oshkosh B'Gosh, other than it is freezing outside. All the snow melted away with the rain over the weekend and now a cold front moved in. More snow expected later this week though.
I am on call for jury duty, did not have to go in today, but have to call to find out about tomorrow. Working much of the week too, but that is nice as it will give me some extra spending money for the holidays. I am so frustrated that I cannot find some simple gifts for my nephews. I know what I want, but none of the stores have them. So far I have baby G bought for, and a few things for my 3 monsters. May have to brave Toys R Us this coming weekend to finish the nephews.
Hope all is well in your lives!

9/10 I forget my cell phone at home. I wouldn't want my 17yo to be out without hers, but I rarely use mine.

For me the worst is the ones in the grocery store with those "hidden" ear things and I always think they are talking to me!

No, you are not alone with this particular vent! I especially can't stand it when people are talking on their wireless headsets and you don't realize it and think that they are talking to you!

Since when did we all become so important that we have to be on our cell phones constantly? What did we do before the advent of these things? Makes you wonder, doesn't it!

I have mine with me but I try not to talk on it much at all; it's mostly there for emergencies or if Amanda needs to get in touch with me.

I have lots and lots of shopping to do yet and am really running out of time!

I don't have a cell phone. When I retired (over five years ago) I turned in the work one and canceled my personal one. I lived on the phone my entire working life. I don't want to talk to anyone, but you are right it's rude as heck.

Have a terrific cell phone free day. :)

You are so not alone!! I got rid of mine when we left the west coast and only have one now after a family emergency that convinced me we should have at least had one for emergencies!

Of all the conversations I have been forced to overhear in the past few months, NOT one of them couldn't have waited until they got home. Like you said I don't want hear about their party that sucked or ...

But seriously do we need our cell phones do everything that they do? NO is the correct answer.

I completely agree with you!

Right on dude! I think some people are just so uncomfortable in their own skin that they can NOT handle being alone. They freak out and automatically pull out their cell phone. I notice this especially on college campuses.

Oh, and a fun game I learned from an Ex... when you're at a stop light and there are drivers around you on cell phones - crank up the music to insane levels :)

I never use my cell phone. It gets annoying to keep answering it while I'm out so I never turn it on anymore.

I'm in total agreement with all of your rants!

As someone working retail, I thank you for the last one.

When someone comes to the register on their cell phone and don't even say "hello", I treat them in kind...You don't speak to me, I don't speak to you. Not a word if my original greeting is not answered. I ring them up and stand there without telling them the total. And I call the next customer when I have finished, as opposed to when they have moved away from the counter. If they don't want to be civil to service workers they should shop online and leave us the customers who recognize that we are humans, not ATM machines.

I no longer have a home phone, the cell is all I use. Most days it's left at home on the charger. If I'm working multiple jobs in a day it comes with me. Any calls I make are in the car, still parked, between jobs. I don't want other people hearing my conversations!

I heard a man in a coffee shop one day, with his laptop, give his credit card info to someone on the phone at full voice, not once, but twice! If I had a pen with me I would have written down all of his info and handed it to him. I sure he would have been completely shocked!

You got me all worked up and I still have to go to work today!

I'm so with you on this! Where is it written that we need to be connected with folks via phone so much of our lives ... totally neglecting and ignoring those we encounter in real life? I carry a cell phone for emergencies, but I don't answer it when I'm with others and as result, it seldom rings and that's just fine with me.
Hugs and blessings,

Oh, I'm right there with ya on the cell phones! PUT THE DAMN THINGS DOWN ALREADY!!!

Oy vey...

And what's with our weather lately? Snow, frigid cold, 44 degrees, frigid cold again and more snow. Good God enough already! It isn't even officially winter yet!

OK, sorry. I feel better now. Thanks!

I hate when someone runs a stop sign and almost hits you then waves their cell phone at you????? When did owning and irrsponsibly using a cell phone make it okay for you to almost kill me.

We defrosted a bit today here in Oregon..but not for long.

Most definitely! I agree with this. Cell phones are annoying to say the least. Some people are just rude, cell phone or not though.
